Colorado teen ordered to trial in girlfriend’s 2012 beating death

SALT LAKE CITY — A judge has ordered a Colorado teenager accused in his girlfriend’s 2012 beating death to stand trial for murder in Utah.

Judge Dane Nolan is hearing arguments Thursday on whether the 17-year-old should be tried as an adult in Anne Kasprzak’s 2012 death south of Salt Lake City.

The Associated Press is not naming the teen because he is a juvenile.

Prosecutors say the defendant, then 14, was upset when the 15-year-old girl said she was pregnant, so he beat her to death and dumped her body in the Jordan River.

A medical examiner has said the girl wasn’t actually pregnant.

Nolan ruled Wednesday there is enough evidence for the teen to stand trial. Arguments on whether to try him in adult court are expect to end next week.
