Regulators deny industry request to limit new oil, gas rules

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

DENVER ” Energy industry groups have lost their bid to limit the scope of proposed new regulations on oil and gas drilling in Colorado.

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission voted 6-3 on Thursday to deny a request from industry groups and others to narrow the scope of the proposed overhaul of state regulations.

The commission wants to adopt the new rules by mid-August. Industry officials say that doesnt leave enough time to give the proposals a fair hearing.

Supporters of the overhaul say Colorado’s record-breaking natural gas boom is good reason to move ahead.

The new rules will implement two new laws requiring that more weight be given to environmental, public health and wildlife issues when the commission approves energy projects.
