Reporters’ Notebook

“Reporters’ Notebook” is a roundup of quotes, notes, bits and bites gleaned from meetings, events, press releases, e-mails or simply overheard on the street. Some of it is just for fun, and some of it is newsworthy tidbits that did not find a home in the other pages of the paper. Look for “Reporters’ Notebook” each Monday in the Summit Daily News.

“Mounting is extreme dominance behavior.” – Don Drogsvold, co-owner of K-9 Consultants Dog Training Specialists.

“Hey, Tom. Change your pants tonight. The evening session’s a little more formal.” – Breckenridge Mayor Sam Mamula to developer Tom Begley. Begley was wearing a regular ol’ pair of jeans.

“It’s the boiled-frog syndrome, if we’re not careful.” – Mamula. We think maybe he’s referring to when a lobster is placed in a tank of water that is gradually heated and it doesn’t notice the heat, but would notice it if it’s thrown into a pot of boiling water.

Lobsters, Sam, lobsters.

“We don’t have a problem with questions. We have a problem with intelligent questions.” – Mamula, asking the arts council to supply the town council with questions to ask prospective arts council members.

“Herman’s on it? Well, you better make a phone call.” – Breck Councilmember J.B. Katz, during discussion about a contentious variance request going to the county Board of Adjustments. Herman Haering is on that board and the town council’s planning commission.
