The Republican Party became a national party in 1856 under the slogan “Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont”. John C. Fremont was the first Republican presidential nominee. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican to win the White House in 1860. Jeanette Rankin was the first woman elected to congress in 1917. She was a Republican.

In his 2003 State of the Union Address, President Bush told the nation, “We will not deny, we will not ignore, we will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, other presidents, and other generations.”

The Rebulican Party’s 2004 platform: winning the War on Terror, ushering in an ownership era, building an innovative economy to compete in the world, strengthening our communities and protecting our families.
