Resorts need to take control

Kim Johnson, Frisco

Claudia Carbone’s letter (SDN, Nov. 30) hit me like a ton of bricks (much like the snowboarder that hit me). But unlike Carbone, I did not have a broken pelvis. She wrote, “While you are out there snowboarding, I am learning how to transfer my broken body from the wheelchair to a walker.” Minor collisions are one thing, but being nailed from behind is sadly a way too common occurrence at Colorado ski resorts. And people know the difference. This out-of-control behavior could be stopped if customers spoke up about their furor over being used as human bowling pins! Make Carbone’s pain a rallying cry to mobilize ski areas to stop out-of-control skiers and boarders. Ski patrol handles out-of-control skiers/riders too gently. Talk to ski patrol and ski instructors and they will tell you their hands are somewhat tied. This problem could be stopped if management and ski patrol took a stand about this behavior.Let Vail Resorts and Intrawest know you will support the first corporate entity who really takes a stand about kamikaze users. Send Carbone’s letter to resort managers. Send her letter to every snow magazine you know of. Don’t just sit there and shake your head in agreement! This is not a boarder/skier issue. It is an out-of-control issue and will change when resorts get a reputation for pulling passes, the Sheriff’s Office issues more citations and lots of people get sued.
