Restaurant Relays Tuesday in Frisco

Daily News staff report

Summit County locals are teaming up, literally, for a good cause.

Members of the Summit County Restaurant Association are planning an inaugural Restaurant Relay through downtown Frisco Tuesday to raise money for Domus Pacis Family Respite and the continued fight against ovarian cancer.

Teams of three will relay race through Main Street in Frisco. Team members will carry a tray, pick up items or complete restaurant-related tasks – like a pizza dough toss – at various stops. The race starts at 1 p.m. at the Frisco Historic Park and Museum and finishes at the Island Grill. Each member will carry their tray throughout their leg of the race.

The idea came about after numerous members of the community came forward with stories about friends or family fighting ovarian cancer, race organizer and Fifth Avenue Grille co-owner Michelle Foster said. The race is intended to not only raise money, but create awareness. And, organizers thought it would be a fun way to get the community involved.

Following the relay excitement, all racers are invited to commemorate the event with live music, food and cold beverages. The festivities will include an awards ceremony and prizes for the top three teams.

To enter, each participating restaurant has to have a minimum donation of $100. Each participating race member needs to raise a minimum donation of $50.
