Summit Daily/Reid Williams Jack Weins, sculptor and pastel painter
ALL |

Drawing, painting and graphic arts have been Jack Wien’s avocation most of his life. By day, he’s a psychotherapist in private practice in Frisco. Art helps lighten him up after a hard day’s work.He moved to Summit County in 1991 and took sculpting classes from Deb Grebonar, who was a resident sculptor with a studio in Frisco.Dreams It would be great to make my living at painting and sculpting, but maybe the best would be to do art and give it away to friends and family members.

Why do you do it?It satisfies a drive to create, and it distracts me from the heaviness of psychotherapy. What do you convey through art?Usually I am trying to convey a mix of mysticism, humanity and the beauty of nature, but I also like humor and surprise in a piece.Challenge

The hardest thing is making time for the creative process and deciding what the subject matter should be.AccomplishmentI was thrilled to be in the Loveland Sculpture show two years ago and to sell a sculpture there. Another very satisfying thing I do is make custom greeting cards for friends and family members.Staying fresh

Looking at other artists’ work always inspires me. Selling a piece helps, too. When you’re not doing art?I like to bike, hike, play with my grandkids, watch movies, sing, dance and travel.Anything else?I just like to encourage people to believe in their creativity. It comes in all forms and doesn’t have to fit anyone else’s criteria to be art. Let it out! Do it now!- Kimberly Nicoletti
