Ritter, other governors visit Iraq, meet Guard troops

DENVER ” Governor Bill Ritter has flown to Iraq to meet with Colorado National Guard troops and U.S. military commanders.

Ritter and two other governors arrived Tuesday.

Ritter toured the Green Zone in Baghdad and also met with Colorado Guard troops serving in the 332nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron and the 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group.

The governors also met with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice before leaving on the Department of Defense-sponsored trip.

Also on the trip are Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri and South Dakota Governor Michael Rounds.
