Ritter plans to announce school reform proposals

DENVER ” Governor Bill Ritter says he will announce a set of education reforms affecting schools from kindergarten through high school.

He describes the reforms as ambitious. They will be unveiled later Wednesday, hours after the release of the state’s annual School Accountability Reports, which use student achievement tests to measure school progress.

Last week, a task force established by Ritter proposed a number of steps to streamline Colorado education from preschool to graduate school. The suggestions include higher pay for teachers, changing statewide achievement tests and tracking troubled students to reduce dropout rates.
