Ritter to nominate Munn for Regulatory Affairs post

DENVER Gov.-elect Bill Ritter on Tuesday said he will appoint state Board of Education member Rico Munn to be executive director of the Department of Regulatory Affairs.”Rico Munn has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to our children and our future,” Ritter, a Democrat who will be sworn in Jan. 9 to replace Republican Gov. Bill Owens, said in a statement. “I know he’ll bring the same type of energy to his new assignment as the chief protector of the public interest.”As head of the agency, Munn, a Democrat, will oversee regulation of businesses and individuals including banks, utilities, insurance companies, doctors and accountants.The appointment requires Senate confirmation. Ritter said Munn would resign from the Board of Education during the panel’s next meeting.Munn, a trial lawyer, is an adjunct law professor who teaches trial practice at the University of Denver College of Law.
