Rob Murphy: Nicholson the superior candidate

Rob Murphy

What happens when you’re facing a superior candidate against whom you have basically nothing to say? You just start makin’ stuff up! A good example is the recent ridiculous attack on Jeannie Nicholson, candidate for SD 16, by her opponent’s camp. Can’t find a legitimate criticism of Nicholson as Gilpin County Commissioner? No problem, just blame her for the recession! Put some unemployment numbers by a picture of her and leave it to the reader to decide!

This type of thing is common from the Leonard camp, including from letter writers to the SDN who urge us to buy into more nonsense about Leonard’s candidacy. One example is the constantly-repeated assertion that Leonard’s experience in business and business education are assets. Look a little further into Leonard’s actual ideas about the relationship between government and business, however, and you’ll find only far-right theoretical hot air that’s failed in the past and would be devastating if actually taken seriously in the current state of affairs. Combine this with a backward social agenda, and in Leonard you’ve got a one-two punch of extreme economic and social beliefs that simply do not fit the constituency of Senate District 16, nor bode well for effective representation of our interests in the Colorado Senate.

In Jeannie Nicholson , on the other hand, we can expect effective representation of our interests in the areas that matter most: job creation, health care, education, and protection of our natural resources. Vote Jeanne Nicholson for Colorado Senate District 16.
