Robert Owen Ward: You blame the economy, I blame pornography

The local job market is a joke! It seems like every reputable business only takes job applications online, which in the spirit of going green sounds like a winning plan. When did an e-mail address become just as important as a phone number? Hardly any businesses even bother to message you back to say we got your application – you’ll be hearing from us in … so many days. If the Internet was free I could understand this but alas, it’s not! I am 24 and have been looking for a job for two weeks, and have to pirate wireless signals to apply for jobs, check e-mail and I feel like a criminal or addict searching for that Internet fix.

I’m writing you from the Transfer Station in Breck and am glad I’m able to do so for free. I feel Internet porn is the reason I’m against censorship of any kind. Yet in my opinion the day you have to have an e-mail and the convenient yet illusive Internet to put in applications, it should become free. Maybe two separate webs – one for businesses and Twitters and one for adult subject matter . What do I know though. It’s a very touchy subject.
