SUMMIT COUNTY – A rock slide caused by a water main break temporarily closed Dillon Valley’s Little Beaver Trail. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said Evergreen Road should be used to access Dillon Valley until further notice.

“A water main broke behind the Walgreens and sent a bunch of water down the 60-foot retaining wall, causing some of it to slump,” said Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue public information officer Steve Lipsher in an e-mail. “Two homes down below were evacuated and Little Beaver Trail has been closed over by 1st Bank. They’re awaiting results of an engineering study to determine the next steps toward stabilizing it.”

The Town of Dillon is now taking the lead in stabilizing the area. It’s expected the road will remain closed at least through May 31.
