Roger Pelot: Feedback on Dillon

I find your editorial interesting. While the Yacht Club parking issues seems to be a no-win issue, there seems to be disregard for how the situation occurred in the first place. This place was the first complex to be built with the construction of the dam, and it was obviously meant to be a summer retreat for second-home owners. Most ski areas didn’t exist at that time and there was no Eisenhower Tunnel. Front Range visitors had to travel Loveland Pass so it took forever to get to Dillon. As a result, there was more than ample parking at Yacht Club for these occasional visitors.

But times have changed. Over the years the Yacht Club complex started to become a more year-around local resident complex and as a result required more parking. It’s unfortunate that the HOA did not address the increasing parking issue. But they didn’t. Now they place blame on the town. Has the town allowed the right-of-way parking to help the situation? Yes. So some compromise needs to be accomplished. But don’t put all the blame on the town.

Now the amphitheater issue. I agree that this is a Dillon jewel and is a beautiful venue as it sits today. Can you imagine surrounding the amphitheater with a fence that keeps non-payers from seeing paid events? What an eyesore. And without a cover how do you deal with rainouts and refunds? It also sounds as if the town is paying for the free concerts. I know that they have costs associated with putting on the concerts, but the Lake Dillon Foundation For the Performing Arts use to book and pay for the performances. Has this stopped? What the amphitheater needs is a new back room for performers, better concessions and restrooms.
