Rollover accident leaves one dead near Heeney

Daily News staff report

SUMMIT COUNTY – A one-vehicle, one-passenger rollover accident at mile marker 124 on Hwy. 9 north of Green Mountain Reservoir resulted in the single passenger being killed Saturday afternoon, Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson reported. The victim, a 63-year-old Denver woman driving a 1994 Subaru Legacy, apparently lost control, overcorrected, and rolled the vehicle three times. While the accident is still under investigation, Richardson said the driver was wearing only the shoulder portion of the car’s seat belt, and not the lap belt, which contributed to her death.”I know of so many cases where people have had their seat belts on improperly, and if they would have had them on properly, they would have survived the crash – which is the case in this situation,” Richardson said. The name of the woman was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
