Rotarian community dinner needs funds for new ovens

SILVERTHORNE – The free Rotarian community dinner, held at the Silverthorne Elks Lodge every Tuesday, suffered a terrible blow last month – its ovens completely stopped working.

According to Hage, the dinner’s ovens quit without warning, sending volunteers scrambling to serve 350 people with roasters and steam trays that week.

As of Tuesday, Hage said “we are still about $750 short but we are making good progress” on collecting funds to purchase new ovens.

“The delivered price is $5,615 for a double stack such as we have now and the electrical work to hook them up is $1,160, for a total of $6,875,” Hage said in an e-mail.

Attendance to the dinner is still up – 256 people, including 38 children were served at the Feb. 23. This was down from 328 dinner attendees from Feb. 16.

“It is spring break so we believe a number of families left the county,” said dinner spokeswoman Deb Hage.

Donations toward the purchase of new ovens can be sent to Rotary Club of Summit County Charitable Fund. Write “Community Dinner” on the memo line and mail it to P.O. Box 415, Frisco, CO, 80443.

“Thank you for your continued support and generosity,” Hage added.
