Runner accused of assaulting wife

BOULDER ” An elite runner accused of assaulting his wife was free on $10,000 bond Sunday.

Binesh Prasad, 41, was arrested after his wife, Nadia, told police he strangled her, punched her in the face and broke her nose Tuesday at their home in Niwot. Nadia Prasad also is a marathon runner and is a former Olympian for France.

Binesh Prasad was charged Friday with two counts of second-degree assault, menacing with a deadly weapon, third-degree assault and four counts of child abuse because the couple’s children were home during the alleged assault.

He could face up to 32 years in prison if convicted.

“It was just a misunderstanding between us that went out of control,” Binesh Prasad said. “Everybody makes a mistake.”

Nadia Prasad told police her husband attacked her because she did not have his dinner ready on time. Binesh Prasad said he was defending himself because his wife attacked him after he yelled at her. Officers said he had two scratches under his right eye.

Nadia Prasad told authorities her husband had hurt her before during their 15-year marriage, but she did not tell police because she thought things would improve, according to an arrest report.
