Russ Paul Rahn: Missing Mad Dog

Russ Paul Rahn

It’s been a couple months now and it still hasn’t sunk in that “Mad Dog” died. I ran with him in the ’70s and did some of the most outrageous things that a normal person wouldn’t believe if I was to share them here, so I won’t! His real name was Dan Mernah and he was a dear friend of mine.

I kinda denied it all when I heard it through the “old guy rugby pipeline” that magically appears to inform the old ones that a past brother has fallen. I hadn’t seen ” Danny Champagne” – a name he liked to call himself – in maybe five years, and he didn’t look like I remembered him. So it wasn’t a total surprise. Anyone younger than 50 won’t believe a word of it, but all you “old farts” who where there, know better! It’s long overdue but I miss you, Dog, and thanks for your friendship while we where smashing down those doors of perception!
