Ruth S. Hertzberg: A right to health care

As Tom Gnewuch implied in his letter, I believe health care is a right. This belief is clearly stated in our founding documents The Declaration of Independence (inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) and the Preamble to the Constitution of the United Stares (promote the general welfare) as well as in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I also believe the single-payer plan is the best way to achieve this right. Senate Bill 168, being introduced last week – which Mr. Liddick originally advised against passing – contains a plan to provide health care for all Coloradans. Let us hope it passes and at least here in Colorado we will in line with other industrialized nations.
