I-70 EB to reopen in Summit, Eagle, within the hour

UPDATE: CSP Eagle has announced that I-70 EB in Summit County will reopen at around 6:15 p.m. in Summit County and 6:30 p.m. for Eagle County.

Numerous spin-outs, accidents and generally dangerous conditions due to blowing snow and wind have forced a safety closure on I-70 Eastbound at Exit 203. Safety closure is also in place at Exit 180, East Vail. There is currently no estimated time of opening.

A massive, dozen-plus car pileup occurred around 1:30 p.m. on I-70 eastbound at mile marker 211, 6 miles east of Silverthorne.

Colorado State Patrol directed drivers stranded on roads to a shelter located at the Silverthorne Recreation Center, 430 Rainbow Drive in Silverthorne. Another shelter has been created at Summit Middle School in Frisco. All drivers are urged to redirect themselves to the shelter for a warm place to wait the weather out.

This story will be updated when more information is available.
