FINAL UPDATE; 6:45 p.m.: A wanted man with a history of evading police in Summit County was arrested following a “safety lockdown” in Blue River on Wednesday around 3 p.m.
The lockdown warned residents to stay inside and lock their doors due to police activity in the area near Colorado Highway 9 between Mark Court and Spruce Creek Road, mile markers 80-84, according to the Summit County alert. The lockdown ended around 4 p.m.
In response to a Summit Daily News request for information about the lockdown, Blue River Police Department chief David Close sent a press release that explained Brandon David Mumma, 44, was arrested on charges related to an out-of-county case.
A grand jury in Jefferson and Gilpin counties indicted Mumma on charges of tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with evidence following a death investigation for a 34-year-old Denver resident, Jax Gratton.
“The two-count indictment alleges that on or about April 16, 2025, Mumma removed Gratton’s deceased body, as well as her personal belongings and other evidence of her death, to avoid detection by the police,” according to a press release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Despite multiple media requests for more information about the incident that led to the lockdown, the Blue River Police Department did not provide details about the lockdown beyond the release and the following written statement.
“Mumma was taken into custody for the charges stated in the release,” Chief David Close stated. “Law enforcement officials took the appropriate measures to ensure the best possible outcome for all involved. I’m grateful that no one was hurt and the incident went smoothly.”
Requests for information sent to numerous departments in Summit County during the lockdown were returned, but officials deferred questions to Blue River Police Department, noting Blue River as the investigating agency that would be in charge of releasing information about the situation.

The lockdown and incident comes after Mumma was arrested in July 2017 following a 100-mph police chase and charged with 11 counts, including speeding, vehicular eluding, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, according to past Summit Daily News reports. The report stated that Mumma “eluded two law enforcement officers, ran several red lights and narrowly avoided a pile-up while driving in the wrong lane before being taken down by a sheriff’s office canine.”
Mumma has a $100,000 cash bond on the recent tampering indictment, the release stated, and his first court appearance is expected to be tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, in Summit County.
