BRECKENRIDGE – Spring underscores the beauty of the mountains, and today, Jim Salestrom gives listeners an acoustic dose of gratitude. The two-hour concert for children and adults alike includes free cocoa and cookies at the Bergenhof Restaurant in Breckenridge.John Denver heavily influenced Salestrom’s music. He sang and recorded with Denver along with Pete Huttlinger and Denny Brooks, who also performed in Denver’s band.”I love singing his songs and trying to remember his vision,” Salestrom said. “His memories are really kind of sacred to me. They’re like prayers.”Salestrom infuses his songs with tender, honest, optimistic lyrics.”I try to write thought-provoking songs that will get people to take a look at their lives, songs to make you laugh or cry, tunes with family values about the way I was raised, music with emotional depth,” Salestrom said. “If I can connect with listeners, take them away on a journey for a few minutes and make them think, I feel the song and my performance are a success.”

His polished voice has led him to perform worldwide with Dolly Parton for 11 years and such artists as Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Kenny Rogers, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. He has released 20 solo albums and has played for Presidents Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.Salestrom lived in Summit County for 20 years and still has a home here. These days, he lives full-time on the Front Range.”My heart has always been in Summit County, from the first time I played there in 1974,” he said.
