Sally Meach: Can’t find recycling center

My husband and I reside in northern Michigan, but spend five to eight weeks a year in Summit County. We love this beautiful community and all its amenities. I am concerned by the lack of convenient recycling. At home in Michigan we have a bottle and can law. All bottles and cans have a $.10 deposit which is refunded when the cans are returned. We also have weekly curbside recycling. My husband and I have reduced our household waste by nearly 75 percent by composting and recycling paper, cans, bottles, carboard, plastic, etc.

In a state that is as environmentally conscious as Colorado, why aren’t there recycling bins available at condominium complexes or other convenient locations? I Googled a recycling collection center online and took my recycling to the address listed, but found no center and ended up throwing my bottles, cans, and papers into the trash bin. It is distressing to think these items will end up in a land fill. Please help us help Colorado.
