Save May 14 for Countywide Town Clean-Up Day

SPECIAL TO THE DAILY

SUMMIT COUNTY – Despite the new snow, enough of the winter snowpack has melted to reveal a season’s worth of trash.Emerging trash is a sure sign the Countywide Town Clean-Up Day is around the corner, planned this year for Saturday, May 14.The event is coordinated on the same day by the towns of Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon and Breckenridge. This continues the tradition of a unified clean-up day. In past years, each town struggled to set days that would not conflict with each other or other community events.Volunteers are the key to making the cleanup successful. Officials remind veterans and newcomers to reserve the morning of May 14 to lend a hand. All participants are invited to a barbecue lunch in each of the towns where prizes will also be doled out. This year the towns of Summit County are again proceeding with “Zero Waste Picnics.”This means that the events will strive not to create any additional waste by using biodegradable cutlery, reusable plastic cups, recycled content paper plates and napkins, as well as recycled content trash bags. The barbecues will feature separate receptacles for compost waste, biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable items. To learn more about the individual town efforts, call:- The Breckenridge Clean Up Hotline number at (970) 453-3198;- Dillon Town Hall at (970) 468-2403;- Frisco Town Hall at (970) 668-9133; or- Silverthorne’s information numbers at (970) 262-7377 or (970) 262-7370.
