Saving souls ad lacks PR soul

The Nov. 24 Summit Daily carried a half-page ad by Summit Medical: “Saving Souls in Summit County well before A&W.”I think that the ad is in poor taste given the public issue of the A&W’s signs that include scripture quotes. As a former public relations director for a Catholic institution, I am particularly aware of the power of advertising in establishing an institution’s image in the community. As I have written to Centura’s PR department, it seems to me that its attempt at making a local connection is in poor taste for a Catholic institution. It lacks an awareness of ecumenism, a welcoming of different ways of “saving souls,” an acceptance of differences which marked the ministry of Jesus.I hope they will not run the ad again.
