SUMMIT COUNTY – The state sheriff’s association and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office will award a scholarship to a local student this spring.

Students are encouraged to apply for the $500 award by March 31. Applications are available at the sheriff’s office at 501 N. Park Ave. in Breckenridge. The winner will be announced May 30.

Any permanent resident of Summit County enrolled in or applying to a vocational training program or school of higher education in Colorado is encouraged to apply.

The County Sheriffs of Colorado Inc. has awarded scholarships since 1978. A committee appointed by Summit County Sheriff Joe Morales will review the applications. The committee will evaluate applications on ability, merit, character, sincerity and career purpose.
