School board president thanked for telling truth about Summit Schools

I just wanted to thank the Summit School Board president Jennifer Brauns for her clear message to all Summit School District parents on where their kids should attend school.

As parents of two elementary school kids who attended private school in Texas, we always wondered whether we should send our kids to the Vail Mountain School (VMS, or if we should send them to the local public school.

You see, we moved to Breckenridge two years ago, and we immediately contacted VMS. Both of our kids were accepted to attend the school.

We researched the school system here and found out Summit County had an excellent school system.

Local parents and some school board members told us our school system was as good and offered programs that VMS did not. They told us Summit Schools offered well-rounded education for our children.

So we decided the public school was a better choice for our kids.

We ignored the fact that two of the school board members, Dr. Garrett Sullivan and former member Mr. Roger Beery, sent their kids to VMS.

I realize now what a big mistake we made. I really appreciate Mrs. Braun’s clear message to highly recommend VMS over the public school system.

My advice to all parents is that now is the time.

The mortgage rates are very low. If your kids have not inherited a big sum from their beloved aunts or grandparents, this is the time to borrow money on your house and send your kids to VMS.

I would ask all parents who still think they should send their kids to the public school: Would you buy a can of Coke, after seeing the president of the Coca-Cola company walking around with a can of Pepsi in his hand?
