School district adopts new slogan

EDUCATION

SUMMIT COUNTY- The Summit school board adopted the new slogan last week: “Committed to Excellence,” over the proposed, “Good to Great.”

Several district staff resented “Good to Great,” because they feel the school district is already great.

In an informal e-mail poll, one staff member said “Good to Great” “makes us sound like we’re a mediocre school district.”

One veteran teacher said, “This district used to be one of the top districts in the nation and has had its ups and downs, but we are still excellent in most areas.”

Superintendent Lynn Spampinato didn’t object to the “Committed to Excellence” slogan, but cautioned that calling a district “excellent,” when it’s not yet there, is a disservice.
