‘Science of Beer’ benefits Keystone Science School

Beer lovers rejoice: the Keystone Science School’s 3rd Annual Science of Beer Dinner takes place Thursday at the Quandary Grill in Breckenridge.

The event features a four-course meal, each paired with a complementary beer crafted by Colorado breweries Great Divide and New Belgium, with local representation from Pug Ryan’s and Dillon Dam breweries. Brewmasters from each will be on hand to explain the science and art behind their creations.

All proceeds support programming for kids at Keystone Science School.

“It’s really interesting to hear firsthand from the brewmasters how they thinking about crafting new beers and what goes into the process,” Ellen Reid, director of KSS said. “Recognizing that there are a lot of fundraisers out there, we wanted to provide a fun, unique, affordable event that’s a little different than the typical wine-pairing dinner. It’s not just a fundraiser for us – it’s a way to get to know and thank the community that supports us all year.”

Quandary works closely to come up with dishes to highlight the flavors of the various beers. The exact menu is not finalized yet, but there will be chicken, beef and vegetarian options.

Revenue from the event has gradually increased over the first two years, but KSS hopes to have its most successful event to date, said KSS spokeswoman Robyn Brewer. This year’s goal is $5,000.

In celebration of the school’s 35th anniversary, tickets are $35 per person. The event begins at 6 p.m. Must be 21 to attend. Call to reserve your tickets at (970) 513-5837.
