Scoring error keeps ‘Road’eo Award in Summit County

In conjunction with the American Public Works Association’s 25th annual Western Snow and Ice Conference in Estes Park, heavy equipment operators from all over the country participated in a national Snow “Road”eo, a three-component contest that included written and diagnostic tests as well as an obstacle course, with motorgraders, heavy trucks and front end loaders to find out who’s the best in the nation. One of these honors went to Summit County. Since 2000, the Motorgrader Trophy has resided in Summit County with locals Spencer Esch from Breckenridge, or Vic Schroeder or Dale Frye from Summit County Road and Bridge. This year, the trophy was awarded to a Nebraska operator. The next day, a scoring error was discovered and the trophy came back to Summit County Road and Bridge’s Vic Schroeder, making him the only individual in the nation to win the trophy three times.
