Scott Mathews: Bad driving rampant in Summit County

Scott Mathews
Breckenridge

These past months up here in Summit County have brought much weather and traffic woes to our small communities. Having lived here for seven years or so after serving time on the East Coast, I must say I have never seen such despicable driving habits in such bad weather up here. Mind you, it is not just our guests from D-Town that seem to “Evel Knievel” their way around. Locals are just as guilty.

During my daily commute from Breckenridge to Frisco and back in the past few weeks, I have witnessed multiple accidents, including at least two that were possible fatalities. Cars not moving over for emergency vehicles are also one of the despicable deeds I have seen yet. What if that ambulance was headed to the hospital with your kin in it?

What gives people? Hey, that’s a fancy Subaru, Saab or Audi with all wheel drive. Nice F-350 monster truck you have there! These machines do not give you an excuse to drive like a bonehead! You are not the only one on the road. I would prefer to get home in one piece even if it requires me to slow down. Having an AWD/4×4 does not give you the right to put me in danger. Yeah, I have one too. I also would like to return myself and my vehicle to my home at night without damage, bodily harm or death.

Next time you jump in your Push-Button, AWD, Traction Control, Variable Tran Speed, Tank, Hummer, H1, Full Size, GT, WRX, Turbo, Flux Capacitor, NASA Engineered, Cobalt, USS Enterprise, Crew cab, Buck Rogers All-Weather Assault Vehicle – remember that there are others that need to get where they are going too – with everything intact.
