Scott Nixon: Frontage Road the I-70 solution

Scott Nixon

The short term minimal cost I-70 solution is in place! It’s called the Frontage Road.

For only 17 winter Sundays (1-9 p.m.), I-70 doesn’t need $25-40M zipper lanes or $55M Twin Tunnel enlargement. The Frontage Road, a continuous well-paved road, exists from Georgetown to the Central City Parkway.

All that is required are flagpersons to keep Frontage Road traffic moving: off I-70, through surprisingly few intersections, and back on I-70 (job creation!). A short section around the Twin Tunnels also needs repairs/paving. In addition, some widening may be necessary from the Central City Parkway to Floyd Hill to maintain three lanes of eastbound traffic on that section.
