Scott Writer: Another interpretation of pot use in survey results

I read with interest the article headlined “Survey: Pot use, depression up among local kids” in which Kari Read suggests pot use is up because of recent decriminalization in Breckenridge and the “message” that sends. I am writing to offer another interpretation: Perhaps decriminalization has encouraged more kids to answer the survey honestly about their use than they were before decriminalization, thereby skewing the older numbers lower than reality. Maybe use isn’t up at all, or not as dramatically as the survey would indicate, but honesty is. Not necessarily a bad thing.
