Scum Alert! Somebody took a recycling truck on a joy ride

Carly Wierexecutive director

The Summit Recycling Project definitely has some guardian recyclers out there – those who help folks new to the drop-off centers find the right bin, and those who call to let us know when something is amiss at one of the local recyclers centers. And we love them.Unfortunately, like our staff, our guardian recyclers were busy this weekend enjoying some time off while the gates were closed for the holiday. While the gates were closed at the Frisco site on Monday evening, some people helped themselves to the white recycling pick-up truck for a late-night joy ride through some muddy woods. How do we know about this late night adventure? The large dent on the passenger side door and the tree branches and mud plastered to the truck were good signs. We would hate to resort to locking the gates with chains and padlocks and installing security cameras at the community drop-off centers. Until now, those who recycle after hours did so respectfully. We are a nonprofit organization. Fixing dents in vehicles and replacing the stolen drill bit sets is expensive. Stealing personal items from our hardworking staff is just plain wrong. If something is free and intended to be reused and taken by a recycler, it will be marked. And when the gates are closed, please respect that gate closure and come back another time to recycle. We’ve got a good thing going here, let’s not ruin it! Carly Wierexecutive director
