Searchers find missing man in Rocky Mountain National Park

GRAND LAKE – For the second time in three days, a missing person has been found alive in the Colorado backcountry.Rescuers in Rocky Mountain National Park found Terry Harlon of Shreveport, La., on Thursday, four days after he failed to show up for a flight to Dallas.Harlon, 48, was spotted by a helicopter crew at about 12:30 p.m., six miles from a trailhead on the west side of the park where his car had been found Wednesday, park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said.Ground crews reached him later and gave him food and water. Patterson said Harlon was “mobile” but she had no other details. Rescuers were preparing to take him to the nearest road, probably by four-wheel-drive vehicle, she said.On Tuesday, rescuers found 8-year-old Evan Thompson alive and well, four days after he disappeared in rugged country about 90 miles southwest of Denver.Evan had been on camping trip and wandered away Saturday morning. Nearly 100 rescuers assisted by helicopters, planes and dogs mounted an intensive search.Harlon had been on vacation in Colorado and last spoke to his wife by telephone on May 24, park officials said. He used an automatic teller machine in the Grand Lake area the next day, they said.About 50 people, four dog teams and a helicopter were involved in the search.Rocky Mountain National Park straddles the Continental Divide about 60 miles northwest of Denver.
