Sen. Salazar to seek tornado aid from Congress

WINDSOR ” Colorado Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar says he will try to seek funding through Congress for Windsor’s ongoing recovery efforts after a tornado tore through the eastern Colorado town in May.

Windsor estimates the town’s clean-up efforts will cost $2 million.

FEMA representatives say the agency will not help with recovery efforts because the city’s damage estimate is too low.

Salazar met with FEMA representatives, Mayor John Vazquez and other Windsor city officials Monday to get an update on tornado recovery and clean up.

Vazquez told Salazar that nearly every roof in town needs repair, and city officials say more than 100 permits have been issued for reconstruction.
