Senate backs Sunday liquor sales

DENVER – The state Senate has given final approval to a proposal allowing liquor stores to open on Sundays.The bill passed 23-8. It now heads to the House for consideration.Liquor store owners have protested previous attempts to change the state’s blue laws, saying they would rather stay closed on Sundays. This year, many of them switched positions in hopes of blocking another proposal that would allow supermarkets to sell full-strength beer and wine.Supermarkets say its unfair that liquor stores have a monopoly. Lawmakers killed the supermarket bill this month.
