Senate bill targets ship pollution
WASHINGTON ” Domestic and foreign ships traveling to U.S. ports would be required to use cleaner fuel under legislation that passed a Senate committee Wednesday.
Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California says emissions from ship engines are a major cause of air-quality problems at the nation’s ports. The problems are particularly severe at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
Her bill passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee by voice vote and now goes to the full Senate.
