5 p.m.: Colorado State Patrol said in a news release that troopers were dispatched to a multiple-vehicle crash on Colorado Highway 91 a little after 3 p.m.

Vehicles were blocking the highway near Mile Post 15 and multiple parties were transported to the hospital with injuries, the release states. The extent of the injuries are unknown at this time, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Early reports indicate that “possibly” seven vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred during severe weather with whiteout conditions and icy roads, the release states. The crash is under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

The road reopened at 5 p.m. in both directions, after tow trucks and crews cleaned up the crash scene. Colorado Department of Transportation worked to improve road conditions, according to the news release.

4 p.m.: The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the what Lt. Mike Schilling described as a seven-vehicle crash. He said the highway is expected to remain closed for at least another hour.

3:38 p.m.: Colorado Highway 91 is closed in both directions due to a crash, according to COTrip.org.

Highway 91 is closed between County Road 22 and Forest Service Road 232, 4 miles south of Copper Mountain, the Colorado Department of Transportation said. Delays are expected due to the crash.
