Katherine Marie Ortega Verducci, 49, of Breckenridge died May 26.

Verducci was born on Jan. 20, 1954, to parents Catherine and Dominic. She attended the University of California at Riverside, where she earned degrees in alcohol and drug abuse prevention. She moved to Summit County and was active with the detoxification center in the early 1990s. Later, she worked for Wal-Mart and Resort Express.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two husbands. She is survived by brothers John Verducci of Arcola, Ill., and Dominic of Fort Myers, Fla; sister Annette Petritis of Fort Myers, Fla.; sons James Robert Bourne of Fort Collins and Joseph Michael Ortega of Breckenridge; daughter Jerilyn Michelle Ortega – who is expecting Verducci’s second grandchild on July 4 – and granddaughter Leelynn Bourne of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by her family and friends, but especially by all the kids she watched over the years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dillon Town Park behind Dillon Town Center. A barbecue will follow, and children are welcome to attend services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathy’s memory to Katherine Marie Ortega Verducci at WestStar Bank to help pay for expenses.
