Editor’s note: Following is a list of Summit County natives who are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. If you have a family member or friend who should be recognized, please e-mail his or her name and background information to or call (970) 668-3998 ext. 248.

n Brian D. Grill, son of Col. George W. Grill (retired) and Ann Grill of Silver Shekel, is a major in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany.

An F-16 pilot, Grill is currently assigned as an air liaison officer to the U.S. Army.

Brian Grill entered the Air Force in 1993 and has served in South Korea and Iraq. He was in Iraq earlier this year serving as an air liaison officer to Army elements during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

n Shawn Wray, son of Joe and Ginger Wray of Breckenridge, is a first lieutenant stationed out of Fort Carson. He has been serving in the Tikrit region of Iraq since March. He is a 2001 graduate of West Point.

n Shelby Anderson, son of Dean and Susan Anderson and brother of Sierra Whitney and Memory Anderson of Breckenridge, is part of the First Armored Division stationed near Baghdad in Iraq. He was in the Summit school system until his junior year of high school before finishing at the Military Youth Academy at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

n Mark Martin, a 2000 graduate of Summit High School, is serving as a corporal in the Marines. He was at sea for nine months on the U.S.S. Carl Vinson and is currently stationed in San Diego. Martin, formerly Mark Strickland, is the son of Barbara and Steve Strickland of Dillon. He’s been a Marine for more than two years.
