Sheila Groneman is the best choice for mayor

Henry E. Barr

I want to take this opportunity to ask Silverthorne voters to vote for the person who most represents the people of Silverthorne.

The current mayor has changed his tune 180 degrees since he was elected. Last election, he was on a platform of no Wal-Mart, no big-box retailer and citizen input on annexation. He led the charge to put Wal-Mart to a vote. Now, it’s a big-box retailer and give them tax rebates. It is also Safeway in a location outside of the zone use for the land.

He was quick back then to figure out what Wal-Mart cost the town, but has said nothing about the legal cost of battling the lawsuit over the river front area. How will you pay for it if Silverthorne loses?

Sheila has been a loyal and committed participating member on the Silverthorne Town Council. It has been suggested that if she is elected, there will be no growth. I think that if you look at the voting record for Sheila, she has approved many growth-related projects and is in favor of the Silverthorne Mountain Village project, but not with the grocery store in that location.

What type of leader does Silverthorne have? Ask around town to people who have come to meetings and other towns in the county and state or people who may not agree with him. Many have been chastised, put down or penalized because they dared question the mayor.

I feel it is time to have a mayor who listens to all people in front of her and tries to facilitate different options. It is time to have a mayor who lets people speak, ask questions and doesn’t put them down. It is time for the mayor to be a person who puts forth a positive attitude and outlook on the town.

It is time for a change, vote for Sheila Groneman.
