The Summit County Sheriff’s Office last week investigated a dispute where a jar of mayonnaise was reportedly thrown, arrested someone who became violent during a psychedelic mushroom trip and cited an heavily-intoxicated snowboarder who passed out off the side of a ski run.
The following incidents occurred between Tuesday, April 1, and Sunday, April 6, according to the weekly log of notable calls published by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, April 1, a woman reported that she was assaulted outside a business in unincorporated Summit County by an acquaintance. She explained that the assailant was a man she knew but hadn’t seen in a while and that he got upset at her during a conversation. She said she went into the store and when she came out, the man attacked her, strangling her and pushing her to the ground before leaving the scene. The woman later sought treatment at St. Anthony Summit Hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
Also Tuesday, a woman in unincorporated Summit County reported an incident involving her ex-boyfriend who came to her house to pick up a vehicle he had left behind. During his visit, the two got into an argument. The woman claimed that her ex then spray-painted his own vehicle and smashed out a window. When a Dillon Police Officer later pulled the man over, he denied damaging his vehicle and alleged that the woman had spray-painted it, smashed the window and thrown a jar of mayonnaise at him. Deputies spoke with the woman again but her account of events was reportedly different every time she explained it. The ex-boyfriend provided evidence that the woman had called him 52 times that day. Deputies ultimately determined that the woman was the predominant aggressor in the situation, arrested her on several charges, including domestic violence and harassment, and transported her to the Summit County jail.
On Wednesday, April 2, Summit County Animal Control officers responded to a report of two dogs running loose on Colorado Highway 9 near Stan Miller Drive. Upon arrival, officers found the caller nearby with the two dogs. The officers were able to identify and locate the owner at a nearby hotel. The owner was given a verbal warning and educated about the hazards that loose dogs can pose on a highway. Deputies also informed the owner about Summit County’s dog licensing requirements. The dogs were returned to the owner.
On Thursday, April 3, deputies responded to a home in unincorporated Summit County following a report of an assault. Two couples had consumed psychedelic mushrooms and alcohol. One woman went to bed while the other three continued to socialize. A few hours later, the woman awoke to find her boyfriend acting as if he didn’t recognize her. He mistakenly thought she was a trespasser and became violent, shoving her across the room. The other couple attempted to intervene, but the man lashed out and punched them both. The woman and the couple fled the home, leaving without even putting on shoes, and called 911 from their car. Deputies arrested the man on multiple charges, including domestic violence and assault, and transported him to the county jail.
On Friday, April 4, an elderly man was skiing inbounds at Keystone Resort when he collided with a friend. Following the collision, the man went unconscious and stopped breathing. Life-saving efforts were initiated and a Flight for Life helicopter was called. But before the helicopter took off, the man’s condition improved and he was alert during the flight. He was transported to St. Anthony Summit Hospital.
Also Friday, Keystone Ski Patrol reported that an intoxicated snowboarder was discovered off a steep embankment and was too intoxicated to return to the run himself or assist patrollers in getting him back to safety. Patrollers set up a rope to extract the man, who had become unconscious due to his level of intoxication. He was treated by a nearby urgent care center. The man’s blood alcohol level was measured at over twice the legal limit to drive a vehicle. After waiting two hours for the man to wake up, deputies cited him for a skier safety violation.
In another incident Friday, a hiker left her purse in her car at a trailhead while on a hike with friends. A few hours later, she received a fraudulent activity alert from her bank. She discovered that three credit cards were missing from her wallet. Together, these cards had incurred charges totaling over $1,600, all from transactions that occurred in Eagle County. The woman reported the fraud to the banks associated with her cards. An investigation is ongoing.
On Sunday, April 6, a front desk employee at a hotel in Keystone reported that a guest called to report seeing a large, naked man in the bathroom of their unit. Deputies responded to the call but it was determined it was likely a prank because the room number provided by the caller did not exist. No naked man was found and the original caller did not answer when deputies called back for more information.
