Sherman resigns as chair of local Democrats

Jane Stebbins

FRISCO – Sandy Briggs will take over as chair of the Summit County Democratic Party after George Sherman announced his resignation recently.

Sherman cited pressing family matters as the reason he can no longer continue as chair.

“In this election year, when so many crucial issues are to be decided by the voters, the party needs someone at the helm in Summit County who can devote maximum time and effort to these electoral responsibilities,” he wrote in a letter to state Democratic Party chairman Chris Gates. “I cannot.”

Sherman plans to remain active on the executive committee.

“It has been a great honor to be chairman of Summit County Democrats for the past two years,” Sherman said. “And I will pledge to do whatever I can this year to help elect Democrats to national, state and local office.”
