SHS debate team wins big

Daily News staff report

FARMER’S KORNER- The Summit High School debate team talked its way into victory on Saturday at its only home meet of the season.

The team won four first-place, one second-place and two third-place awards.

Senior Glen Moore won first place in poetry interpretation, which measures acting ability in a dramatic reading.

Senior Kristen Voorhees garnered a pair of first-place plaques for her performance in the value debate and Ted Turner debate categories. Ted Turner debate is a friendlier, more conversational version of traditional debate.

Junior Evan Ratzman, Voorhees’ partner, also scored a win in Ted Turner debate.

Senior David Teot won first place in creative storytelling, in which he had to pick a topic from a hat and spin an impromptu story for the judges.

Alex Baker and Gabe Wilner won second place in Ted Turner debate, and the team of Brandon Harville and Jory Adams won third.

Lake Dillon Theatre Company member Josh Blanchard coaches the team along with Emily Campbell.

The team competes every week in competitions all over the state.
