Sierra Club meeting rescheduled for Sept. 8

The Blue River Group of the Sierra Club will not be meeting Labor Day, and instead will meet 7 p.m., Sept. 8 at the County Commons near Frisco.

The agenda will include comments on motorized use designations in the White River National Forest, a fire mitigation project and the Forest Service budget crisis.

Sierra Club holding fundraiser auction

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club’s fourth annual auction will be Sept. 12 at the Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver.



The schedule includes registration and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. followed by a live dinner and speaker at 7:30 p.m. The live auction starts at 8:15 p.m.

Snake River Planning Commission to review Soda Creek PUD

SUMMIT COUNTY – The Snake River Planning Commission will review a proposed modification to the Soda Creek at Lake Dillon planned unit development at its meeting on Sept. 18.

The proposed rezoning is for six additional units of affordable housing on .75 acres of land in the Summit Cove subdivision. The planning commission will meet at the Dillon town hall at 5:30 p.m.

SHS tennis challenge

The Summit High School tennis team is holding its annual tennis challenge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Breckenridge Recreation Center outdoor courts.

The team challenges the public to singles and/or doubles matches to raise funds for travel and equipment for the spring season.

Volunteers needed to help with Oktoberfest

Volunteers are being sought for the ninth annual Oktoberfest Celebration, Breckenridge’s favorite street party Sept. 20-21.

Shifts are about four hours and involve different duties including beer pouring, beer ticket sales, set-up and break-down assistance, selling merchandise, security assistance and more.

All volunteers will receive a T-shirt and their choice of a free beer or meal. For information, contact Ken Miller at (970) 453-2913, ext. 210.

Homebuyer class set for Sept. 20

The Summit Housing Authority is presenting a free First-Time Homebuyer Class 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 in the County Commons near Frisco.

The course covers everything you ever wanted to know about homeownership. Child care and a continental breakfast by Hearthstone Catering are provided.
