Sign up for summer reading programs for kids and teens


Preschool, elementary, middle and high school students can turn their reading skills into a pack of prizes this summer as the three branches of the Summit County Library offer free reading programs from June through August. The programs are designed to keep kids reading throughout the summer months in a fun and entertaining way.”Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales” is the program for younger readers. All three branches will have special guest speakers.The Main Library’s reading program begins Wednesday at 1 p.m. For more information, call (970) 668-5555.The North Branch program begins Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with free “doggie” bags for all participants. For more information, call (970) 468-5887.The South Branch reading program begins Tuesday at 11 a.m. For more information, call (970) 453-6098.Students who will be attending middle or high school in the fall can participate in special a program designed to meet their reading needs called “Creature Feature,” which begins June 8 and runs through July 27. For every eight hours of reading, participants earn a free paperback book and an entry for the grand prize drawing. The July 27 final program will be held at the North Branch Library and will feature guest animals from the Denver Zoo. The grand prize, an iPod Nano, will be awarded that day.
