Silverthorne Ice Rink

What’s better than ice skating during the winter? How about free ice skating? The Silverthorne ice rink at North Pond Park is perfect, simple entertainment for everyone of all ages. The park is open from dusk until dawn so you can go after work, bring your kids after school, or even have a romantic date.

The Silverthorne ice rink is located at the corner of Highway 9 and Hamilton Creek road at North Pond Park. The Silverthorne Elementary School is right next to the pond, creating a fun and easy after school activity for parents and their children. Skating takes place from dawn until dusk and is available December through February and make sure to visit the new Warming Hut.

The ice rink will have designated prepared areas where people can skate. Those who wish to hockey skate will use no more than half of the ice. Pick up hockey games are welcome and other amenities at the park such as picnic tables or the docks are a great way to cheer on your favorite players. Although hockey games are permitted, controlled skating is a must. Everyone must have a pair of skates to use the park. There are several places where you can rent skates if necessary. Rentals are available at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge, the West Lake at Copper Mountain and the Lakeside Village at Keystone Resort.

There is an enclosed pavilion that can be used year round from 10am. to 5p.m. and acts as a perfect warming hut in the winter. There is also a picnic shelter, two docks, restrooms, a gas fire pit, parking and a short walking trail at North Pond Park. If ice skating really isn’t your cup of tea, perhaps a short hike can pass the time. Or bring a cup of hot cocoa and watch the avid skaters as you stay warm in the warming hut.

Unfortunately, there will be no ice fishing allowed at the lake. For those who really need ice fishing to complete their day, check out Green Mountain Reservoir for all of your fishing needs.

North Pond Park as well as all the amenities is free to the public year round. Silverthorne’s Public Works Department is in charge of maintaining the park as time allows and works really hard in keeping the park nice and accessible for us. Try not to make their jobs harder. Pick up after yourselves and leave the park exactly how you found it, if not better.

Ice skating at North Pond Park is an amenity in itself and it is important to show respect to the park, the people who help maintain it and the other citizens in Summit County. If North Pond Park just isn’t your vibe, Trent Park is a short, fourteen minute drive heading closer to the town of Silverthorne.
