Silverthorne man arrested in connection with an assault on an 11-year-old girl

SILVERTHORNE – A 26-year-old Silverthorne man was arrested last week in connection with the sexual assault of an 11-year-old Silverthorne girl.

Felipe Lechuga Barrera is charged with sexual assault on a child, a felony offense. He is in custody at the Summit County Jail.

The suspect and the victim live in neighboring trailers in Cottonwood Trailer Park, located on Highway 9 in Silverthorne, police reports show. Witnesses, including Barrera’s wife, told police they saw the man fondling the partially undressed girl behind the trailers along the Blue River at about 10 p.m. April 16.

During an interview with police, Barrera admitted to the offense, according to police reports.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Summit County Court at 11:15 a.m. May 16.
