Silverthorne moves on playground equipment

Silverthorne staff is installing two new playgrounds this summer, using equipment selected through a public process in which more than 100 residents provided input.
The Trent Park playground and Rainbow Park tot lot will be under construction in August, with completion expected by mid-September.
Staff received nine design proposals for the playgrounds. It hosted two open houses, conducted an online survey and visited local schools to get feedback from the community on preferred designs.
The Trent Park equipment serves youth ages 2-12 and features a pirate ship and a tree house, which are connected by a bridge and include an ADA transfer station. It offers assorted climbing, sliding and balancing elements. Two baby swings, two belt swings, a sand-digging area with buried fossils, a spring rider and a spin cup complement the structures.
The Rainbow Park tot lot serves youth ages 2-5 with an enchanted forest theme. It’s separate from the larger playground that was constructed in 2010 and will provide a quieter area for young park users. The tot lot is located on the eastern edge of the park, just south of the existing sand volleyball courts as called for in the Rainbow Park Master Plan. Restrooms and a picnic area adjacent to the tot lot are called for in the master plan, but those amenities are not funded in this year’s budget.
